When you are running low on space on the iPad (and have iCloud Photo Library turned on), Apple keeps the full quality version of the photo in the cloud.
The photos are replaced (on the iPad) with an optimised version. The quality will largely remain the same but the file size will be reduced. Thus giving you more space on the iPad
This helps you to automatically manage space on the ipad.
How to get to this screen:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and tap on iCloud
- Tap on Photos
- Make sure that iCloud Photo Library is turned on (green showing).
If you want the highest quality version on your iPad, tick "Download and Keep Originals".
If you want to have space on the iPad, tick "Optimise iPad Storage"
